Maintain, Don't Gain Is Now READY, SET, GOAL!

The holidays are almost here! During the holiday season, we tend to eat and drink more calories. We also sometimes overextend ourselves, resulting in holiday stress. However, by planning ahead and using balance and moderation, you can enjoy the holidays the healthy way. We are happy to announce the start of Wellington’s 2018 holiday weight maintenance program, “Ready, Set, Goal!”  (Formerly known as Maintain, Don't Gain!)  If you are interested in participating, just drop by the WAC office and sign up with the fitness staff. You will receive a tracking sheet.  This year we are doing a slightly different challenge:  You can choose to weigh in or not!  If you choose the weight option, after weighing in, you will track your points for several different behaviors such as getting 30 minutes of activity, planning and packing your lunch, weighing yourself, logging your food intake, drinking at least eight 8-oz glasses of water, and participating in some kind of stress-reducing activity such as yoga or listening to music.  Each day that you participate in a given behavior you get a point for that activity which you will track on your sheet.  You can get multiple points in a day, one for each activity that you do.   You will keep a daily count of your total points.  If you can accumulate at least 100 points AND weigh out after New Year’s within 2 lbs. (or less) of your initial starting weight, you win a prize (plus the satisfaction of knowing you didn’t gain weight over the holidays)! If you choose the non-weight-based option you still track all the behaviors, but you don't need to maintain your weight, so it's suitable for kids and others who may even want to gain weight.
